On September 11, SLOWednesday will host Farming and Fracking, a discussion of the importance of small rural farmers, what they do for our communities and how hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and it’s collaborative industries are endangering this niche in rural communities nationwide.
Featured Speakers:
Jason Shoot, farmer at Frontwards Farm in Makanda, IL, near Carbondale.
Tabitha Tripp, a life long Illinois resident, has been a volunteer with SAFE (Southern Illinoisans Against Fracturing our Environment) for nearly two years. She became engaged in the fracking debate after learning about risks to water supplies and the devastation the industry causes to rural communities. She lives in unincorporated Union county with her two children and partner on a fourth generation family farm, where their only source of water is a deep well.
